What can I expect at the first session?

Our aim is to put you at ease. The first session is an opportunity for you to tell your story, discuss what you would like to achieve from counselling, for us to assess whether the service we offer matches your needs, and for you to decide whether you wish to continue with us.

You will also be given a 'consent form' which gathers some basic information from you, and explains the rules of confidentiality and how we practice.

A copy of the Australian Counselling Association's Code of Ethics can also be provided on request or viewed by clicking on Code of Ethics.

Cancellations

We do understand that sometimes the unexpected happens. We greatly appreciate you giving us as much notice as possible if you need to change your appointment as we often have a waiting list for urgent appointments. Cancellations within 24 hours of an appointment may incur a cancellation fee.

Medicare Rebate

Counselling sessions do not currently qualify for Medicare rebate. However, this means that a GP referral is not required for counselling appointments, and that sessions are not recorded on your medical records. Medicare does not offer rebates for couples counselling.
